Burgundy

Bonjour!

It’s been a while as the wifi in regional areas while on the barge was not strong enough to upload content and since I got to Paris I’ve been far too busy being a tourist to blog. I found some time while on the train to Versailles to compose this update.

The tour through Burgundy was superb and far exceeded my expectations. The barge ‘Daniele’ was built in 2016, so everything is nice and new. I had a cabin to myself, as there were no other solo travellers. I was glad for that as it would have been a bit too close for comfort sharing with a stranger!

I’m going to let the pictures do the talking in this post. Highlights of the tour include two days of cycling (40kms each day) through vineyards in the bright sunshine, passing chateaux and sampling the goods in cool caves / cellars; leisurely cruising down the canals, Cremant in hand, waving to locals fishing on the banks; eating a number of delicious four course French lunches and dinners on the boat that were paired with local wines (the exceptional chef produced the dishes in a tiny kitchen too); exploring beautiful little villages with cobblestone streets and cascades of colours falling from windowsill planter boxes; and, of course, new friends.

A big shout out to Jen and Bev from Boston, Massachusetts and Mary-anne and Dick (or ‘Deek’ if you’re from Boston) from Bendigo, Victoria. It was so much fun to share laughs and good times with you in such a beautiful part of our world!

  1. The tiling on that roof 😍 and 40km a day 😱 you’ll have legs of steel by the time you get back, I could not deal 😂

    1. Thanks Tanya! I was really impressed with the architecture in London – that’s coming up next. Plenty to talk about with you and Pat on my return!
